Twitter hack on low-carb cruise – reprehensible! Updated.

Somebody appears to have hacked the Twitter account of Dr Jack Kruse who was to speak on the Low-Carb Carnival cruise ship. A tweet was sent out suggesting that he was planning some kind of bio-terrorist attack. The FBI searched his room and arrested him. Although he was eventually cleared, the ship’s captain refused to let him re-board. It’s unbelievable that some anti-low-carb nut-case would stoop to this kind of thing. Let’s hope the perpetrator is caught and punished.

Update: it appears that the Twitter account used was not Dr Kruse’s personal account but one called “shitkrusesays” whose major contributor is known and lives in New York according to this more recent report:

  1. Carbohydrates are addictive. Addicts react strongly to any perceived threat to their fix. Sad, really.

  2. The rumor about a “ringleader” in NY was started by Dr. Kruse himself, who insinuated, without evidence, that several female critics of his were responsible for this incident. A few members of the paleo community called the FBI agent working on the case (Kruse recklessly posted the agent’s cell # on several websites) and were informed that the FBI wasn’t even pursuing the person or people behind the Twitter account (http://bit.ly/Ka1nCw). They were more focused on the person who apparently phoned or emailed Carnival and insinuated that an attack was being planned. The text of the Tweet, by the way, referred to Kruse’s use of dynamite as a prop in his recent PaleoFX talk (http://bit.ly/Ke4c9q) and his bizarre claim that he injected himself with MRSA prior to undergoing elective surgery (http://bit.ly/IvlnUv). So much of the information about this case is hearsay, often coming from Kruse himself. It’s very difficult to know what’s true and what isn’t.

Thanks for the additional information. Curiouser and curiouser.
